Five steps to making money from Self-Serve

advertising in 60 days

Here are some tips to start making money from self-serve advertising, using the iPublish SMB platform in 60 days.  Just select a launch date about 30 days out. Then use our support team to help you follow these steps:

1.  Choose an advertiser test group

We recommend starting with a specific subset such as:

  • “Churned” advertisers - These are defined as an advertiser spending less than $2000 a year, or who has not advertised in six months. These advertisers have a relationship with your media company and may respond to different products and lower price points.

  • Unsold prospects in the database - There are typically thousands of unsold prospects in most media databases to choose from.

  • Priority verticals such as real estate agents, A&E, home services, event organizers or other lists.

An East Coast newspaper started off their SMB strategy with a half page of small community theater ads in print a using the SMB portal.  Others started off with real estate agent ads, supported by a sales rep. Tell us your priorities.

2.  Price three admix packages

Our team will make it simple by recommending pricing that has worked in our test markets customized to your choice of vertical and market. We recommend a range between $99 and $399 a week.

3. Put your sales reps on the team

Internal support from sales is a huge factor in ramping up quickly. Incentivize your team by keeping the commission on accounts that convert to self-serve ads from their lists or territories.

4.  Create an email and social posting schedule to promote the plan

We have samples of email and social posting schedules and can help customize by adding holidays, seasonal specials, or special sections during the launch.  Best practice is at least monthly, and up to weekly promotions, more frequently during the launch.

5.  Add a traditional media schedule

Traditional media is your best weapon at launch. Plan a major campaign to coincide with the launch date and run for one month.

Now there is nothing to do but Launch and optimize!

Based on experience, your conversions should come in at 1% of emails sent, with an average sale of $3000. So if you are emailing 1000 prospects, supported by advertising, you are making revenues in 30 to 90 days of launch and on track to make much more!
