Examples of splash pages

Posted

Interested in creating ready-to-deploy splash page templates for online display ads?  Here are four splash pages to look at that that typify common strategies. - we'll be adding to this list as we find different usages.

1. The Classic Splash Page

This is the "look" of a great splash ad, in our opinion; it is horizontal, ie intended to be read above the fold with all the data capture points visible.  There are also multiple conversion possibilities. While this splash page is busy, it allows customers to chose to email,  chat, call, or be called. Studies show that multiple options, by providing choice, typically result in higher the conversions. So as a means of collecting leads, this is a great way to go.  Notice that this also repeats the offer in the banner ad,  "Free Home Security" and  offers immediacy, "Call Today, Installed Tomorrow."

2. Classic Splash Page, vertical template

While we prefer a horizontal format with multiple conversion opportunities, David Fowler's company Ads-Up has produced this basic format that shows exactly what a splash template (he calls it a Squeeze page) is designed to do:

1. Restate the offer and explaining it more fully

2. List benefits

2. Collect the data

3. Call to Action

3. Single Purpose Splash Page

Occasionally a campaign has just one function:  To collect a database of email names, to collect a mobile text opt-in, or to build Facebook fans.  The soul purpose of the campaign is to collect a particular kind of database for a future, more targeted sale.  We saw this in the current election season when some campaigns, such as the one below,  ran ads to collect email lists to be used closer to the election date. In this case the splash page is simplified to a single purpose. Note: if a splash page resides on a web site, best practice is to NOT include any navigation or other distracting links that compete with the offer and call to action. While this customer could have given a few more key benefits to motivate the buyer, this is a great example of leaving the visitor with nothing to do but give their email!

4. The Splash Page is a Coupon

The next example from Valpak's site shows how a splash page can be a printable or mobile coupon,  which can be directly redeemed.

In a pinch, a replicate of a print ad can be simply deployed online, but we recommend creating templates for PC and mobile use for these common versions. If you have examples of splash page templates you like, please send them to Localmediainsider.com.
