Straus Media, a New York-based group is the first U.S. newspaper group to launch its news sites on Millenium, a CMS newspaper system by Protec Media, and completed migrated  15 community weeklies to the new platform in September, 2019.

The platform allows write-once, output everywhere editorial production across multiple devices and brands with minimal staff, according to Thad Swiderski, CEO of Etype Services, which represents Protec in the U.S. Protec is also an investor in Etype Services.

“With so many newspapers, we wanted to create a centralized workflow across multiple devices, with some shared content,” said Jeanne Straus, publisher at Straus Media.

“At the end of the day, we want our pages to be beautiful on print and on any device.”

“This is a browser-based solution that has the power of a big newspaper CMS,” Swiderski said.

Protec, a Spanish newspaper systems company, recently entered the U.S. market with  Millenium Cloud, a CMS with a lower price point but all of the core benefits Protec provides to some of the worlds largest international newspapers, including  a data-driven workflow as well as the cloud-based seats that allow multiple users to log-in from anywhere.

Swiderski said he first met Straus at an NNA conference.

“She told us a little about the issues and we kept talking. They were using Newscycle CMS and wanted something better.” Swiderski said. “Millennium is incredible software. By the end of the first demo she said ‘let’s go’.”

Swiderski says the secret sauce is the combination of a cloud-based platform and database driven workflow that allows content to deploy seamlessly, without designers or transition programs, into templates customized for each device.

“It truly is the most efficient ‘write once, output everywhere’ platform available today,”  he said.

Etype Services, develops software solutions for 500 newspapers, mostly in towns with a population under 30,000, including chains of up to 36 newspapers.

Straus News operates 17 newspapers contiguous markets ranging  from  Manhattan, Southeastern New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania,
